Biography

Petar Bankov is a lecturer in Political and International Studies at the University of Glasgow. His research interests focus on comparative party politics, particularly the relations between political parties and citizens at the local level. He has published extensively in high-impact academic journals on topics such as political participation, public opinion, populism, and Central and Eastern European politics. Bankov is committed to exploring ways to improve political participation and the relationships between citizens and political parties, utilizing a wide variety of research methods, including qualitative and mixed methods. His background includes a BA in International Relations from the University of Sofia, an International Masters in Russian, Central and East European Studies from the University of Glasgow, and an MA in European Studies from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. His doctoral research further developed the theme of electoral geographies in the context of the European radical left. In addition to his academic role, Bankov has experience in non-formal education promoting intercultural exchange.
