Biography

Peter Adamson's primary areas of interest include late ancient philosophy and Arabic philosophy. His monographs deal with the Arabic versions of Plotinus and the so-called 'Theology of Aristotle', focusing on al-Kindi (d. 870 AD). He has published numerous articles on figures from the Greek tradition such as Aristotle, Plotinus, and Porphyry, as well as notable philosophers from the Arabic tradition including al-Kindi, Abu Bakr al-Razi, and Avicenna. Adamson has edited books such as 'In the Age of Averroes', published by the Warburg Institute. In 2012, he moved to Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and King's College London, where he oversees a research project funded by the Leverhulme Trust titled 'Natural Philosophy in the Islamic World'. He also hosts the 'History of Philosophy without Gaps' podcast, which takes listeners through the history of Western philosophy from its earliest roots and covers major philosophers and lesser-known figures alike. Additionally, he contributes to the online Philosophy Bites podcast and is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio 4's programming.
