Biography

Peter Adkins is a Lecturer in Modernist Literature at the University of Edinburgh, where he contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate programs. He completed his PhD in Modernism and the Anthropocene at the University of Kent in 2019. Since joining the University of Edinburgh in 2021 as an Early Career Teaching and Research Fellow, he has become a permanent staff member by 2024. He is also the current program director of MSc Literature and Modernity and serves as treasurer of the Scottish Network of Modernist Studies. His research focuses on Modernism, Ecocriticism, Animal Studies, and Anthropocene Studies, emphasizing the relationships between humans and nonhuman life. His monograph, "Modernist Anthropocene" (2022), explores how modernist writers responded to environmental changes and the implications of resource use in their narratives. He was invited to speak at various conferences and is actively engaged in organizing symposiums, including those focused on literature's cultural interpretations of climate issues and energy transitions.
