Biography

Peter Allen is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dalhousie University. His research focuses on the thermal and hydraulic performance of heat exchangers, especially for low-flow and buoyancy induced-flow applications, as well as solar thermal energy utilization through liquid flat-plate collectors. His work in these areas has received funding from the Department of Natural Resources and NSERC. In addition to his academic work, he serves as Chairperson of the R&D Technical Advisory Committee of Natural Resources Canada, advising the Federal Government on renewable energy policies. He has also been involved with the Solar Energy Society of Canada and the Canadian Solar Industries Association. Allen previously worked with Combustion Engineering and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, and has held academic positions since the early 1980s, including a lecturer role at the Technical University of Nova Scotia. His educational background includes degrees from Mount Allison University, Nova Scotia Technical College, the University of Western Ontario, and a PhD from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
