Biography

Dr. Peter Allen is the David C. Sabiston, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Surgery at Duke Cancer Institute, where he specializes in surgical oncology with a focus on pancreatic and hepatobiliary malignancies. In 2018, he joined Duke University as Chief of Surgical Oncology and has held various leadership roles within the institution. His prior experience includes directing clinical research efforts on pancreatic neoplasia at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he was also the Associate Director of Clinical Programs at the David Rubenstein Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Dr. Allen’s research interests include the progression of pancreatic precursor lesions known as intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN), which provide critical opportunities for studying cancer progression and preventing lethal malignancies. He has conducted several phase II and III clinical trials evaluating treatments for patients with pancreatic cancer, including serving as the Principal Investigator on a first-in-human multi-center randomized chemoprevention trial for high-risk IPMN patients. His laboratory is involved in training pre- and postdoctoral trainees and plays a pivotal role in developing pancreatic cancer prevention strategies.
