Biography

Peter Almond specializes in niche soil science within the broader field of earth sciences. His research focuses on understanding earth surface processes, biogeochemistry, natural hazards, and paleoclimate, with a particular emphasis on the properties and stratigraphy of soils as temporary earth surface phenomena. Peter integrates the effects of earth surface processes to record aspects of past environments. His extensive experience enables him to bring a unique perspective to research in earth surface processes, complementing disciplines such as geology, geomorphology, geochronology, and climatology. As a result, he is able to push the boundaries of research, leading to new understandings, for example, of CO2 fluxes in Antarctic soils and redefining the rate of weathering from rock to soil. His findings are highly relevant to understanding earth system responses and feedbacks to climate change.
