Biography

Peter Birkelund Andersen is an Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen specializing in social changes, religion, and cultural dynamics in Asia and Europe. His research primarily focuses on the Santals and their conceptualizations of religion, modernity, education, and Christian missions. His extensive fieldwork and archival studies include significant projects involving the Santal Rebellion of 1855-1856, resulting in numerous publications, including a book published in 2023. He has chaired panels and led research networks addressing the intersecting domains of religion and psychological well-being, particularly amidst the challenges posed by Covid-19. Andersen's academic journey spans several decades, with extensive teaching experience across various universities and departments.
