Professor Dr. Peter Andersen

Biography

Peter Fruergaard Andersen is a PhD fellow in the Glycomics Program at the University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on the molecular protein functions and their impact on human physiology and common diseases. Peter is affiliated with the Schjoldager Group, which aims to discover and dissect these protein functions, particularly through the lens of post-translational modifications such as glycosylation. His work merges protein biology, glycoscience, and biomedicine with classical cell biology. By employing state-of-the-art gene engineering technologies and mass spectrometry, he investigates the specific functional and structural impacts of protein glycosylation on disease-causing mechanisms, including the role of enzymes that control these modifications. Through his research, he aims to enhance the understanding of how protein glycosylation serves as a driver of disease pathology.
