Biography

Peter Andrée is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, where he has been a faculty member since January 2007. He has an interdisciplinary educational background, having completed degrees in natural sciences, philosophy, community development, environmental studies, geography, and political science. He earned his PhD in Environmental Studies from York University in Toronto in 2004. Before joining Carleton, he conducted postdoctoral research at the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, focusing on rural food system sustainability. His research interests include political economy, political ecology, Canadian international environmental politics, and food systems governance, particularly concerning Indigenous environmental co-governance within the context of settler colonialism. He has published several books and articles on these topics, including co-editing 'Civil Society, Social Movements and Food System Governance.' Additionally, he serves as the Director of the Carleton Center for Community Innovation and is engaged in ongoing research partnerships addressing food system sustainability in Aotearoa and Canada. Peter enjoys gardening, biking, and canoeing in his free time, living alongside the Gatineau River in unceded Algonquin territory, Québec.
