Dr. Peter Aronson

Biography

Peter S. Aronson is a renowned professor in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale School of Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, followed by an MD from New York University. His career in medicine includes training as a resident at the University of North Carolina and serving as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health. He joined the Yale faculty in 1977 and held the position of Chief of the Section of Nephrology from 1987 to 2002. Aronson's research focuses on the mechanisms regulating sodium, chloride, and acid-base excretion in the kidney, contributing significantly to the understanding of ion transport proteins. He has published extensively in the field, garnering numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Nephrology in 1985 and the Homer W. Smith Award in 1994. He served as President of the American Society of Nephrology in 2008 and continues to engage in teaching and mentoring medical students as an Associate Director of Yale’s M.D.-Ph.D. Program. His work on kidney stones and related physiological conditions remains influential in nephrology.
