Biography

Peter Bentley is an Honorary Professor and Teaching Fellow in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL). He has a diverse research background, incorporating evolutionary algorithms, computational development, neural networks, artificial immune systems, and complex systems applied to sustainability, design, and novel robotics. He received his B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Science with a focus on Artificial Intelligence from the University of Essex in 1993 and completed his Ph.D. in evolutionary computation at the University of Huddersfield in 1996. Bentley has authored over 300 scientific papers and holds several honorary and visiting positions, including appointments at Autodesk and the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He is known for his contributions to sustainable development, having participated in creating the UK's Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and co-founding Kazoova Ltd. In addition to his academic work, he engages with the public through lectures and as a science writer for BBC Focus magazine.
