Biography

Peter Bosselmann works nationally and internationally on urban design and planning projects. He established urban simulation laboratories in Milan, New York City, and Tokyo, and modeled the Berkeley laboratory direction in 1983. His publications have appeared in a wide range of academic and professional journals. His recent book, 'Urban Transformation - Understanding City Design Form' published by Island Press, reflects on the design methods and sources of knowledge necessary for design practice. Together with his colleagues, he is currently working on the 'Global Metropolitan Observatory' and a new book titled 'Metropolitan Landscape'. His notable book, 'Representation Places: Reality Realism City Design,' published by the University of California Press, received acclaim from scholars in diverse fields including history, psychology, journalism, geography, film, architecture, and planning. Bosselmann has produced numerous educational films about urban design issues for cities such as San Francisco and New York City. He has lectured on urban form research related to climate, traffic, and neighborhoods across Europe, Japan, China, Australia, and North America. He has been awarded several design awards, including recognition from AIA, ASLA, and the American Planning Association. Bosselmann teaches studios and seminars focused on architectural, environmental, and urban design theory and research methods.
