Peter Bovendeerd is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology, specializing in Cardiovascular Biomechanics. His research is centered on enhancing the interpretation of clinical patient data through the application of mathematical models based on fundamental physical and physiological principles. These models are designed to predict (pathologic) tissue and organ properties that are reflected in patient data. An important aspect of his work includes the use of inverse modeling techniques, which transform patient data to estimate the underlying pathology. His model-assisted diagnostic approach is supplemented by model-assisted treatment selection aimed at improving long-term prognostic outcomes. His research finds its applications in areas such as Cardiac Electromechanics and Perioperative Monitoring, in collaboration with the Catharina Hospital Eindhoven, and Perinatal Monitoring in partnership with the Máxima Medical Center Veldhoven. Peter completed his MSc degree in Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology in 1985, graduating with distinction cum laude. He has also worked at Philips Industrial & Electro Acoustic Systems prior to obtaining his PhD from Maastricht University in 1990, focusing on the numerical and experimental study of the mechanical behavior of the left ventricle in both normal and ischemic conditions. He has been associated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering before moving to the Department of Biomedical Engineering in 2002.
