Dr. Peter Browning

Biography

Peter Browning is a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at University College London (UCL), specializing in sociolinguistics. He leads the MA in Applied Linguistics and has carried out critical sociolinguistic ethnographic research, particularly focusing on the experiences of Queer Colombians in the UK. He has co-founded the UCL-wide Languages Future Research Cluster and has participated in a range of funded sociolinguistic research projects. His research interests include the intersections of language policy, migration, and cultural discourse, contributing significantly to the field of applied linguistics. Notably, he has held various academic positions, including Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCL’s Institute of Advanced Studies and Teaching Fellow in Applied Linguistics at the University of Birmingham. Browning is an active member of several professional organizations, including serving on the Executive Committee of the British Association of Applied Linguistics and participating in the Research Commission of the Spanish Association of Discourse Studies. He is committed to outreach and community engagement, as well as mentoring emerging scholars in the field.
