Dr. Peter Bytzer

Biography

Peter Bytzer is a Clinical Professor Emeritus in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Copenhagen. He graduated from the University of Southern Denmark with a medical degree (MD) in 1981 and earned a Ph.D. in Gastroenterology in 1993. He is a board-certified specialist in General Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology. His primary research focuses on acid-related diseases and functional gastrointestinal disorders, with specific interests in H. pylori infection, epidemiology, gastrointestinal endoscopy, proton pump inhibitors, and fecal microbiota. Throughout his career, he has played significant roles on various medical committees and advisory boards, including the Danish National Medical Research Ethics Committee. He has held several leadership positions, such as Deputy Head of the Department of Clinical Medicine and has served as chair and member of various medical societies and research committees. His contributions to medicine include authorship of significant clinical textbooks and participation in research programs aimed at improving clinical outcomes in gastroenterology.
