Biography

Peter Chu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He completed his medical school residency in general surgery at the University of Toronto and graduated from the Surgical Scientist Program, where he earned a Master of Science degree, focusing on the immune response in sepsis under the supervision of Drs. John Marshall and Ori Rotstein. His residency training was complemented by fellowships in general surgery at Toronto East General Hospital and plastic surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where he currently serves as an attending staff trauma surgeon in the Tory Regional Trauma Unit. In addition to his clinical roles, Peter is actively involved in research concerning trauma and international health, including outreach work at Galmi Hospital in Niger, West Africa. He leads a research team that conducts longitudinal studies in cottage life at Bruce Peninsula. Outside of his professional commitments, Peter is married to Dr. Hyon Kim, a palliative care physician at Sunnybrook, and they have children who also participate in his research endeavors.
