Biography

Peter Doerschuk joined Cornell University in July 2006, after serving on the faculty at Purdue University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He completed post-graduate training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and held a post-doctoral appointment at the Laboratory for Information Decision Systems at MIT before joining Purdue. His research addresses biological and medical systems from the perspective of computational nonlinear stochastic systems. Notably, he has contributed to computational inverse problems in biophysics, statistical image processing, and biomedical speech signal processing. His work aims to incorporate accurate physical models while developing computationally practical algorithms that can be implemented in high-performance software systems across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. Significant collaborations include developing algorithms for solving 3-D shape determination of viruses using electron microscopy and x-ray scattering data, and creating nonlinear differential equation models for pharmacokinetics of ethanol, which assist in signal processing for ethanol sensor systems.
