Biography

Peter Glendinning earned an MFA in Experimental Studio from Syracuse University in 1978. His education includes a BS in Photojournalism, a BS in Political Science, and a BFA in Studio Art. He has also studied for two years in the School of Law at Syracuse University and learned from Lisette Model at the New School for Social Research in 1973. Since 1978, he has served as faculty of the Department of Art and Art History at Michigan State University, where he currently holds the title of W. J. Beale Distinguished Professor. Glendinning has taught a wide range of photography courses, including Senior Seminar Professional Practices, and developed the university's online photography course, which has reached hundreds of thousands of learners worldwide. His work has been represented in various prestigious collections and he has served in leadership roles in several professional organizations related to photographic education. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with numerous awards for excellence in teaching and has been involved in various arts initiatives, including serving as a Fulbright Scholar in South Africa. Glendinning's artistic focus lies at the intersection of photography and storytelling, emphasizing the unique presence of subjects captured through his lens.
