Dr. Peter Gruber

Biography

Peter J. Gruber, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Surgery at Yale School of Medicine and a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Yale New Haven Children's Hospital. His clinical practice has focused on the surgical repair of complex congenital heart diseases. Dr. Gruber's research aims to understand the molecular genetic underpinnings of these conditions and develop innovative therapies to improve cardiac function. His contributions to the field include discovering the importance of epigenetic factors in cardiac development and response to ischemia-reperfusion injury. He earned a B.A. in Biochemistry, M.D., and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Gruber completed his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Diego, and his clinical training in General and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at renowned institutions like Johns Hopkins Hospital.
