Biography

Peter Jaffé is the William L. Knapp '47 Professor of Civil Engineering at Princeton University. His research interests focus on the physical, chemical, and biological processes that govern the transport and transformation of pollutants in the environment, particularly in the remediation of contaminated systems. His work emphasizes laboratory and field experiments as well as mathematical simulations of biogeochemical processes in porous media. Key areas of his research include the Feammox process for ammonium removal and the biogeochemical dynamics of trace metals and metalloids in sediments and groundwater. He holds concurrent appointments as Associated Faculty at the High Meadows Environmental Institute, Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, and Princeton Institute for Science and Technology of Materials. He is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union and was awarded the Excellent International Cooperation Project Award for his work on the Feammox process in wastewater treatment.
