Biography

Peter Johnson is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo in the Geography and Environmental Management department. He joined the program in 2012 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University. Peter's research focuses on the intersection of government, citizens, and private companies in the sharing of information through geospatial technology, open data, and mobile devices, with a keen interest in crowdsourcing processes. His recent projects include investigations into the value of government open data and the integration of volunteered geographic information into government systems, as well as the development and evaluation of Geoweb platforms and mobile applications. Peter's work has led him to co-apply for a SSHRC-funded Partnership Grant aimed at improving municipal government open data practices. He actively supervises graduate students, particularly those interested in topics related to open data, smart cities, and technology adoption.
