Biography

Peter Jüni is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford in the Medical Sciences Division. He has a robust educational background, having studied medicine at the University of Bern, Switzerland, between 1988 and 1995, and completed specialist training in General Internal Medicine in Swiss hospitals. Jüni has held prominent academic positions; he was a research fellow and senior research fellow in the Department of Social Medicine at the University of Bristol (UK) from 1999 to 2006. Upon returning to Switzerland, he served as the founding director of the University of Bern’s clinical trials unit. In 2010, he was appointed Professor of Clinical Epidemiology, becoming the Director of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine and the Institute of Primary Health Care at the University of Bern. By 2016, he took on the role of Professor of Medicine in Epidemiology at the University of Toronto (Canada), where he also assumed the position of Director at the Applied Health Research Centre. From 2020 to 2022, he was the Scientific Director of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table, where he advised the Ontario government on public health matters. Jüni’s research has primarily focused on methodological issues in clinical trials and meta-analyses, particularly relating to cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disorders. He has contributed to major cardiovascular trials such as FAME 2 and MATRIX and co-authored European guidelines for the management of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, publishing over 500 papers and being recognized as a highly cited researcher by the Institute for Scientific Information in 2015.
