Dr. Peter Kasson

Biography

Peter Kasson is a professor in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on biological membrane structure, dynamics, and fusion, with particular applications in understanding how viruses gain entry into cells. His lab combines high-level experimental and computational work to advance knowledge in this essential area of study. Recent publications from his group detail innovative methods for measuring viral fusion rates, characterizing fusion mechanisms, and modeling large-scale biomolecular lipid assemblies. These insights are applied towards predicting pandemic outbreaks and understanding drug resistance, particularly in relation to recent pathogens such as Zika, SARS-CoV-2, and influenza.
