Biography

Peter Kazanzides is a research professor in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in robotics, mixed reality, and systems engineering. His research primarily focuses on applications for computer-integrated surgery. Kazanzides co-founded Integrated Surgical Systems in 1990 to commercialize robotic hip replacement research, which he conducted while at IBM and the University of California, Davis. He has served as the director of robotics software, leading the design, implementation, validation, and support of the ROBODOC Surgical System, which has been used in over 20,000 hip and knee replacement surgeries. Kazanzides received his ScB in electrical engineering, AB in computer science, and ScM in both electrical engineering and applied mathematics, as well as a PhD in electrical engineering from Brown University. He has been a member of the Whiting School of Engineering faculty since 2002.
