Peter Kelleher is a Clinical Associate Professor at Imperial College London specializing in immunology. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin and has trained in internal medicine in Dublin and clinical immunology in London and Oxford. His PhD thesis focused on dendritic cell function in retroviral infections under the supervision of Professor Stella Knight at the APRG Unit, Imperial College London. His research interests revolve around immunology, particularly HIV-1 infection and primary antibody deficiency, including the application of novel immunological technologies for diagnosing patients with infectious diseases and immune-based disorders. Current research includes studies evaluating the contribution of HIV-1 specific antibody responses to the acquisition and control of HIV-1, especially in high-risk men who have sex with men. He also investigates the defects in B cell memory that underlie the risks of invasive bacterial diseases and impaired vaccine responses in HIV-1 infected patients. His laboratory conducts multi-centre clinical and laboratory-based studies on European and UK patients with HIV-1 infection, CVID, and complement deficiencies. Additionally, he holds honorary consultant positions at the Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust, where he provides clinics for patients with primary immune deficiencies and HIV-1 infection, directing the diagnostic Immunology Laboratories. He is recognized in his field for his significant contributions to immunological research and patient care.
