Biography

Dr. Peter Kertes is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto. He is also the Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at the Kensington Eye Institute and a Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Kertes completed his MD at McGill University in 1991, followed by an FRCS(C) from the University of Ottawa in 1995 and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Louisiana State University in 1997. He has an additional academic background with an AB in molecular biology from Princeton University. Renowned for his extensive research, Dr. Kertes has a special interest in clinical epidemiology, evidence-based medicine, pediatric retinal diseases, and international ophthalmology, contributing to numerous development projects worldwide. His impactful work includes over 300 peer-reviewed publications in leading ophthalmology journals such as Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and Retina, as well as presentations at major ophthalmology conferences. He has received multiple teaching awards and has trained over fifty adult and pediatric vitreoretinal surgery fellows, in addition to educating more than a hundred ophthalmology residents.
