Biography

Peter Knorringa is a Professor of Private Sector & Development at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) of Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research emphasizes diverse roles and impacts of business development in relation to achieving inclusive sustainable development. Since 2013, he has served as the academic director of the Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa (CFIA), a multidisciplinary research center established through a strategic alliance with Leiden University, Delft University of Technology, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. His current research focuses on the developmental impacts of frugal innovations, particularly in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises, exploring the roles of trust, networks, social capital, value chain analysis, and sustainability standards. Peter has accumulated research experience across multiple countries including India, Vietnam, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Russia.
