Biography

Peter McMahon received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with a physics minor from Stanford University in 2014. His research focuses on quantum information processing utilizing optically controlled spins in semiconductors. He conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Applied Physics at Stanford prior to joining the faculty at Cornell University's School of Applied and Engineering Physics. Before attending graduate school at Stanford, he spent a year at the University of California, Berkeley, developing instrumentation for radio astronomy and bioinformatics. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Cape Town. McMahon has received numerous honors, including the Stanford Graduate Fellowship (2008–2011) and the Stanford Nano-Quantum Science Engineering Postdoctoral Fellowship (2015–2017).
