Biography

Professor Peter McNaughton leads a lab group at the Wolfson Centre for Age-Related Diseases, focusing on the cellular and molecular basis of sensations. His group's primary research interests include pain, thermal sensation, and thermoregulation, aiming to link sensory perception with the underlying molecular events that detect stimuli and influence behavior. He has also begun work on how immune cells, particularly neutrophils, detect and locate bacterial targets. McNaughton has initiated drug development projects stemming from discoveries made in his lab and has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Nature, Science, Neuron, EMBO Journal, and Neuroscience. Before his current role, he was the Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
