Dr. Peter Meijden

Biography

Peter Alexander van der Meijden is an academic affiliated with the University of Copenhagen, focusing on various aspects of art history and contemporary art. His research encompasses avant-garde and neo-avant-garde movements, as well as the historical reception of Dada and art post-1945, particularly exploring collective movements like CoBrA. His expertise also extends into the 1960s and 1970s, with interests in Fluxus, happenings, pop art, minimalism, conceptual art, and mail art. Furthermore, he emphasizes contemporary art forms such as performance art and participatory art within public spaces. His current research involves the documentation, preservation, and presentation of non-object-based art, highlighting artworks that create bodily knowledge and relationships, including mail and net art. He actively engages with issues surrounding museology, archives, digitalization, and cultural heritage. His academic background includes a PhD from Copenhagen University and two Master's degrees from the University of Essex and the University of Amsterdam, respectively.
