Biography

Peter Miller is a professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan, specializing in applied mathematics. His research focuses on the asymptotic behavior of mathematical objects relevant to applied mathematics, including solutions to partial differential equations, canonical models of nonlinear wave dynamics, and the statistics of ensembles of random matrices. He employs techniques from the field of integrable systems to study fundamental concepts of nonlinear equations viewed through the lens of compatibility conditions on linear problems. His current research interests include the analysis of Painleve equations, universal phenomena in nonlinear wave propagation, and Riemann-Hilbert problems. Miller has a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, earned in 1994, and has dedicated much of his academic career to unraveling the complexities of mathematical analysis and its applications.
