Biography

Peter is an independent researcher focused on private equity buyouts since 2010. His work has been published in academic journals and think tanks, receiving favorable comments from Financial Economist. Before dedicating himself to research, Peter spent 25 years in mainstream finance, primarily as a credit analyst in New York and London, holding positions at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. He was first exposed to private equity in the mid-1980s when he analyzed leveraged buyouts in New York in 1985. After leaving mainstream finance, Peter also worked as a consultant for a fund manager specializing in 'double bottom line' investing and is currently the investment director at Social Sustainable Capital LLP in London. His research primarily deals with private equity, focusing on how fund managers and asset owners measure gross returns at the individual buyout level, a topic with significant implications for various stakeholders, including asset owners, media, and policymakers. He has created a proprietary database of primarily UK buyouts spanning the past 30 years, using publicly available data from the UK’s Companies House. This database allows for detailed analyses of operating performance and gross investment returns for 550 individual buyouts. Peter has also authored reports for think tanks and contributes to general financial media as an experienced speaker in finance.
