He has served as a clinical investigator in research trials on new treatments for vitreoretinal diseases and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the American Journal of Medicine. Additionally, he has presented research at international meetings for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Nixon is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Texas Medical Association, and he participates in community education seminars on vitreoretinal diseases. He has also volunteered in Nicaragua, teaching resident surgeons and assisting with surgical care for both adults and children. In his free time, Nixon enjoys automobile racing, cycling, running, and competing in triathlons.
