Biography

Peter Peters is an endowed professor of Innovation in Classical Music and an associate professor at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Maastricht University. With a background in sociology and philosophy, he holds a PhD dissertation focusing on mobilities and technological cultures, integrating insights from social theory and science and technology studies (STS) to analyze travel practices. Prior to joining Maastricht University, Peters worked as a classical music journalist and critic, and from 2008 to 2013, he was a professor at the research centre ‘Autonomy and the Public Sphere in the Arts’ at Zuyd University, where he developed research on the intersection of artistic practice and science and technology studies, site-specific art, and the public sphere. His ongoing research merges his passion for music with academic, practice-oriented investigations, including an ethnographic project on the baroque organ within a contemporary context. He focuses on innovating classical music practices and the dynamics between performers, symphony orchestras, and audiences. As a leading figure in the Maastricht Centre for Innovation in Classical Music (MCICM), he aims to foster interdisciplinary research that contributes to evolving symphonic practices and building international research collaborations.
