Biography

Peter S. Rabinovitch is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington. His research focuses on the biology of aging, emphasizing the enhancement of mitochondrial function to promote lifespan and healthspan using mouse models. His lab has previously established transgenic mice that overexpress catalase, which extends lifespan and protects against various health challenges including cardiac aging and cancers. Recent studies have shown similar benefits in mice treated with the tetrapeptide drug elamipretide. Dr. Rabinovitch is the founding director of the Nathan Shock Center for Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging at the University of Washington, one of five NIA-funded centers in the United States. His extensive contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards including the Denham Harman Lifetime Achievement Research Award from the American Aging Association.
