Biography

Peter Rush came to the Law Faculty at the University of Melbourne in 1999. He has had diverse roles, including youth worker, artist, filmmaker, and scholar. Since 1988, he has taught in Law and Criminology faculties in Australia and England, covering topics such as criminal law, jurisprudence, and legal history. In 2004/2005, he was a Karl Loewenstein Fellow in Political Science at Amherst College, USA. Rush has authored several books on criminal law and edited collections on jurisprudence and poststructuralist legal theory. He is known for his involvement in the critical legal studies movement in the UK, has coordinated national conferences, and is a founding member of the journal Law & Critique. He presents lectures and papers internationally and actively contributes to discussions on law reform in Australia, particularly related to sexual offences and HIV transmission laws.
