Biography

Peter Scarborough is a Professor at the University of Oxford within the Medical Sciences Division. He leads the Sustainable Healthy Food Group at the Nuffield Department of Population Health. His research focuses on evaluating population approaches to increase the uptake of healthy, sustainable diets, examining factors such as food choice, pricing, labeling, and marketing. Peter is the Principal Investigator of projects like COPPER and SHIFT, funded by NIHR, Wellcome Trust, and UKRI. His work has contributed to health model development that estimates the population health impact of dietary changes and disease risk factors. He developed the PRIMEtime model, which assesses the long-term cost-effectiveness of dietary and physical activity interventions in the UK. He has also integrated health models with environmental sustainability and economics, notably leading the modeling work for the Wellcome Trust-funded Livestock, Environment, and People project. Additionally, Peter has evaluated significant public health policies, including the UK's soft drinks industry levy, and has contributed his expertise to the Health Select Committee's inquiry into childhood obesity and the Global Food Security programme.
