Professor Dr. Peter Schmedes

Biography

Peter Søndergaard Schmedes is a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Denmark, specializing in marine biology and ecology. His work is focused on the cultivation and utilization of macroalgae, particularly red seaweed, aiming to contribute to sustainable aquaculture and marine resource management. He holds a Master of Science in Biology with an emphasis on marine ecology and physiology from Aarhus University, where he studied from September 1, 2007, to September 20, 2013. Additionally, Peter has held several positions, including a biologist role at Naturstyrelsen and various consultancy positions in seaweed cultivation and management. Peter has been involved in multiple research projects, including BioMeTa, focused on optimizing the growth and bioactivity of seaweed species, and other initiatives supporting commercial seaweed production in Denmark. Active in academic circles, he participates in external examinations and serves as a guest lecturer, sharing insights from his ongoing research and industry experience. His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in promoting sustainable practices in marine environments.
