Dr. Peter Sprengel

Biography

Peter Sprengel is a renowned professor specializing in modern German literature. He studied German philology and classical philology at the universities of Hamburg and Tübingen, where he completed his doctorate in 1976 and habilitation in 1981. He served as a scientific assistant at the Technical University of Berlin from 1976 to 1982 and held several professorships, including one at the University of Erlangen and another at Kiel. From 1990 to 2016, he was a full professor at the Free University of Berlin. His research focuses on German literature from the 18th to 20th centuries, particularly the early modern era, and he has published extensively, including works on Gerhart Hauptmann. Through various scholarly publications, he has made significant contributions to the field of Germanistik. Sprengel has also edited several collections and has participated in numerous international conferences and research projects.
