Biography

Peter received an Electrical Engineer degree from the University of Gent in Belgium in 1982 and MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1983 and 1987, respectively. His current research areas include future Internet architecture, wireless networking, and computer networking with a focus on distributed systems. He has served in various prestigious roles, including as a member of the ACM and IEEE program committees. Notably, he was the co-chair for the OPENSIG'99 workshop and program chair for the HPDC'2000 conference, as well as general co-chair for ACM SIGCOMM'02 and program co-chair for MobiCom 2008. Peter has also served as an associate editor for several journals, including IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. His research interests encompass building prototype systems that incorporate innovative research ideas and evaluating those systems in realistic settings, particularly in wireless networking, which has rapidly evolved with new technologies. Currently, his projects explore topics like self-managing and self-optimizing wireless deployments, dynamic spectrum access, and vehicular networks.
