Biography

Peter Steenkiste is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from Ghent University in Belgium in 1982, followed by his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1983 and 1987, respectively. He is a member of the ACM and an IEEE Fellow. Throughout his career, he has contributed to various program committees, including serving as co-chair for the OPENSIG'99 workshop and the IWQOS'00, as well as program chair for HPDC'2000 and general co-chair for ACM SIGCOMM'02. He is also recognized as a program co-chair for MobiCom 2008 and served as an associate editor for several prominent journals such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems and IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. His ongoing editorial board work includes the Journal of Grid Computing. His research interests primarily include computer networking and distributed systems, focusing on the development of prototype systems that incorporate research ideas and evaluate them in realistic application settings. Steenkiste is involved in active research projects that cover a wide range of topics, including wireless networking, novel network architectures, and self-optimizing network services. He aims to tackle the challenges of providing service guarantees in highly variable user demand environments through the use of autonomic computing techniques.
