Biography

Professor Peter Tassani-Prell, born in 1960, is the director of the Institute of Anesthesiology at the German Heart Centre Munich. His primary research focuses on pediatric cardioanesthesia, early postoperative inflammatory reactions, coagulation monitoring, and autologous blood donation for cardiac surgical patients. He also explores the use of electroacupuncture in anesthesia. Professor Tassani completed his medical studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) and earned his PhD in 1987. Following his training, he received board certification in anesthesiology, worked as a senior physician in the field of cardioanesthesia at LMU, and played a leading role in setting up the interdisciplinary unit for perioperative care of patients with congenital heart defects in April 1992. He acquired his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) in 2000 at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Appointed to a C3 professorship, he leads research interests in cardiac anesthesia within the Department of Anesthesiology, previously headed by Professor Koch at TUM. From 2006 to 2010, he served as the chairman of the working group of leading cardio-anesthetists in Germany.
