Dr. Peter Van Der Heijden

Biography

Peter van der Heijden is a Professor at Utrecht University specializing in statistics within the behavioral and social sciences. He became a professor in 2011, and he currently chairs the Department of Methodology and Statistics. He has held various prominent roles, including chair of the Ethical Review Board Committee on Policy Integrity at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences since 2012. Previously, he served as a professor of Social Statistics at the University of Southampton. Van der Heijden is actively involved in several committees and councils, including the Advisory Council on Methodology Quality at Statistics Netherlands since 2019, and he is a member of the Executive Board of the European Statistical Advisory Committee for the European Commission. He has been counseling on Scientific Integrity for his faculty and has led Utrecht University's focus area in Applied Data Science since 2017. His research interests encompass linkage registers, population size estimation, randomized response techniques, estimating fraud, and categorical data analysis, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with various Dutch ministries for contract research. He is an influential figure in AI health research, representing Utrecht University in collaborative working groups with other notable Dutch institutions.
