Biography

K. Peter C. Vollhardt was born in Madrid, Spain and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina, completing his primary education before moving to Germany where he completed secondary school in Munich. He obtained a Vordiplom in Chemistry from the University of Munich and moved to University College London to graduate with a Ph.D. in Chemistry under Professor P. J. Garratt in 1972. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Professor R. G. Bergman at the California Institute of Technology, and was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1972. Throughout his career, he was promoted to Principal Investigator at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and later became a Full Professor. He has held numerous prestigious fellowships and received various awards, including the ACS Award in Organometallic Chemistry. Professor Vollhardt has published over 360 scientific papers and held numerous editorial positions, including serving as Chief Editor for the journal Synlett. His research interests focus on Organic Organometallic Chemistry, particularly the application of transition metals in the synthesis of complex organic molecules.
