Biography

Professor Peter White holds a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from University College London and is currently a Professor at the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at UNSW Sydney. He began his academic career with undergraduate studies in Biotechnology at King’s College London. In 1996, he completed his PhD, which was followed by a period of postdoctoral research that earned him a Royal Society Fellowship. In 2003, Professor White was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at UNSW where he established a molecular microbiology research group. His research is focused on molecular virology, particularly the virology of noroviruses and adenoviruses, viral evolution, and the discovery of new viruses through metagenomics. He has effectively led a successful research team, attracting significant industry funding and mentoring numerous postgraduate students. He is also actively involved in teaching, coordinating courses on Virology and Microbiology, and contributing to the education of medical students at UNSW. Professor White has been recognized with awards such as the Titan Teaching Award and has served on various committees related to microbiology and virology both nationally and internationally.
