Dr. Peter Whiteford

Biography

Peter Whiteford is a Professor at the Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University, Canberra, and Director of the Social Policy Institute. He has been associated with the University of New South Wales as an Adjunct Professor at the Social Policy Research Centre. His research primarily focuses on international comparisons in social protection systems, child poverty, family policy, income inequality, and welfare state dynamics. Whiteford has published over 100 articles in refereed journals, contributed to book chapters, and has been a keynote speaker at more than 35 national and international conferences. His work spans pension issues in OECD countries and other nations, addressing public/private pension mixes and reforms across various economies including Australia and China. He has also served as a Principal Administrator at the OECD in Paris, where he worked on pension welfare policies. In 2018, he was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.
