Peter Wich leads the UNSW Research Lab for Functional Biopolymers, with primary research interests in macromolecular chemistry, specifically interface nanotechnology and bioorganic chemistry. The lab focuses on the chemical modification of natural biopolymers to engineer new multifunctional biocompatible materials for applications in drug delivery, nanomedicine, and biocatalysis. He earned his PhD in chemistry from the University of Würzburg in Germany, working under Professor Carsten Schmuck. Following his PhD, he was a Feodor Lynen research fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, and later served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Mainz. Since 2018, he has held the position of Senior Lecturer at UNSW in Chemical Engineering. Peter has received multiple awards for his research, including the ARC Future Fellowship and the David Sangster Polymer Science Technology Achievement Award, and has published extensively in polymer science.
