Dr. Peter Wilson

Biography

Peter Wilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Simon Fraser University. His research primarily focuses on Synthetic Organic Chemistry, specifically the development of new synthetic methods and multi-step chemical synthesis targeting complex organic molecules. He has a keen interest in total synthesis of biologically active natural products and their structural analogues, as well as the design and synthesis of novel chiral acetals and ligands for asymmetric synthesis. Wilson's work includes investigating automated parallel synthesis methods to enhance the generation of molecular diversity and assess structure-function relationships. His research programs encompass significant projects related to the total synthesis of biologically relevant natural products, along with advancements in the chemistry of functionalized triquinacene derivatives and low-valent early transition metal-mediated reactions in organic synthesis. With a robust educational background including a B.Sc. from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and both M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester, he complements his academic pursuits with extensive teaching and mentorship in the field of chemistry.
