Dr. Petros Ioannou

Biography

Petros Ioannou is a University Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) holding the A.V. 'Bal' Balakrishnan Chair. He has extensive educational and professional experience, having received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University College London, followed by Master's and Doctoral degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Ioannou has held significant academic positions, including Director of the Center of Advanced Transportation Technologies and Associate Director of the METRANS University Transportation Center. His research primarily focuses on Control, Automation, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Financial Engineering. He has published over 400 research papers and has authored/co-authored 9 books in areas related to controls, vehicle dynamics, and neural networks. Among numerous accolades, he has received the IEEE Lifetime Achievement Award, the ASME Rufus Oldenburger Medal, and has been inducted as a Fellow into several prestigious organizations, including the National Academy of Engineering and the IEEE. Dr. Ioannou is actively involved in consulting on advanced systems in automotive and aerospace industries and has served as a technical expert in various capacities.
