Biography

Petros Ioannou received his B.Sc. degree with Class Honors from University College, London, England in 1978, followed by M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1980 and 1982, respectively. He has served as a research assistant at the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois from 1979 to 1982 and joined the Department of Electrical Engineering-Systems at the University of Southern California (USC) in 1982. He holds the A.V. 'Bal' Balakrishnan Chair and serves as Director of the Center of Advanced Transportation Technologies at USC. Dr. Ioannou has also held key positions such as Associate Director of the University Transportation Center METRANS and has contributed to the establishment of the School of Engineering at the University of Cyprus. With over 400 publications, he specializes in controls, vehicle dynamics, and intelligent transportation systems. His contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including the IEEE Transportation Technologies Field Award and the ASME Rufus Oldenburger Medal. He is a founding member of key engineering organizations and has been actively involved in steering the direction of intelligent transportation research. Dr. Ioannou's service as a technical consultant spans various industries, including automotive and aerospace, highlighting his expertise in vehicle technologies, safety, and robotics.
